Each Painting narrates a story. Art is passed from one generation to the next generation. The canvas is prepared from cloth and the colours are natural colours. All From Raghurajpur, the UNESCO Heritage Village of Odisha. The CANVAS is made from cotton sarees kept in layers and glued using paste (niryas kalpa) of Tamarind seeds and wood apple gum, Kaitha. When the desired thickness is achieved it is sun dried along with soft clay stone powder and Tamarind paste. After drying the surface is rubbed with rounded stone, sea shell or piece of wood. In some paintings, Tusser silk is used as canvas.
