Lord Ganesha under the Tree carved out of a single piece of stone (the pinkish Khandolite, Sahanapathara or Baulapathara stones) from Odisha. They are amongst the hardest stones and are shaped into artifacts, idols and items of daily use with just a hammer and chisel. Stone carving is the chief handicraft of Odisha and this piece has been carved by a Traditional Odisha, national awardee, stone carving master craftsman. The origin of stone carving in Orissa started back to 13th century A. D. The world famous Sun Temple is one of the best examples of artistry. Since then this tradition is following from generation to generation. Even today Stone Carving is one of the famous arts in Odisha. Today there are many families who are engaged in this work as their livelihood and at Kalingarup we support and promote their works bridging the gap between the Artisan and your home.
